Importing VG's from Itanium to PA-RISC

Hello,
I'm attempting to put together a backout plan for a future migration and have a question: Is it possible to import volume groups (vgexport/vgimport) from an Itanium server (RX6600) to a PA-RISC box (N4000)? The volume group would be exported from one EMC frame (12 - 17.07GB luns) to another EMC frame (12 - 33.6GB luns).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom:

This will work exactly as you would expect.

Make sure that your VxFS *filesystem* layout verion is supported by the version of VxFS (JFS) that you are running on each server and you will be fine.

Regards!

Are we talking about BCV or standard disks?

Refer to the man pages of vgchig:

If this is a BCV then you'll need to run vgchid to change the LVM VGID before you import the VG.
