inetd killed & restarted

i have killed the inetd process and restart it again. kill -9 PID and ./inetd . i should not kill the process seem it can be restarted by inetd -c. But already killed and restarted but my ftp daemon was died and i cannot ftp to the server eventhough i have restarted my inetd. Any idea i can restarted the daemon without reboot my server.

Re: inetd killed & restarted

Hello

Start inernet services script also after starting inetd.

#/sbin/init.d/inetd start
#/sbin/init.d/inetsvcs start

If still problem persists then from console prompt stop all application which is running in the server and then do following.

#init 1 to switch the system to single user mode.
#init 3 to switch the system to multiuser mode

This is equivalent to restarting the server.

Re: inetd killed & restarted

As you have killed inetd with -9, there may be no choice but to reboot your system.
killing it this way can sometimes result in totally unpredictable behaviour.
In future, use inetd -k, or if you just want inetd to re-read it's configuration info after a change, inetd -c.
