Informix IDS 9.21.FC4 crashes with onarchive

We upgraded to IDS 9.21.FC4 on our HP-UX 11.0 system and have various problems with onarchive. Onarchive crashes the database system. Here are some of the errors. If you have any comments on this, please let me know.

ARC-E-01846, Error received from Informix server while processing archive or backup.
IFMX-E-API, ISAM error: cannot allocate memory.
Archive request 00000044 failed.

ARC-E-01731, Error while trying to free some logical disk space.
ARC-E-01202, Communication to cataloger not open.

Is it crashing at the beginning of the backup or on the midway ?

onarchive requests a tape and crashes right away writing it's dump file.
Informix/IBM requests to rebuild the sysmaster database. Any comment on this?

Before rebuilding the sysmaster database, you should keep in mind that you may lost some other informations of your instance. If this is a Production Server then don't play with building the sysmaster database. I hope you have to rebuild the sysutil database. If you can attach the onconfig and bar_act.log file that will be helpful for me.

Hi,
If you rebuild the sysmaster database, need to use buildsmi script in $INFORMIX/etc directory.
When you use buildsmi, the existing sysmaster database is dropped and
then re-created; if you have information in the ON-Archive catalog tables, it will be
overwritten.

Yes, it is a production server and yes, Informix/IBM requests to rebuild the sysmaster database using the buildsmi script. Beside the tables where onarchive holds it's information (arc_xyz), what else could be lost??

What about the sysutil database? Would it make sense to rebuild this one? How can this be done?

We can close this thread, the problem was solved by re-creating the sysmaster database. We can now use onarchive and ontape without crashing the server. Thank you for checking into this.
