Input requested for future sar behavior

Hi,

I'd like to ask a few questions to sar users.
First, are there some sar users out there (for disk performance in particular)?

Question is: if we were to provide native multi-pathing in the future, what should sar report:
- per path information (similar to what it does today)?
- cumulative information on all paths to a device?

How important is it to get this cumulative information versus the per path information?

Thanks,

Marie.

I would like to see both, per path and cumulative

Put me down for both.

Both, with switch options, so that the effectiveness of being multipath can be verified, as well as troubleshot if it comes up as a suspicious failure or performance issue. I'd hate to not be able to see how I'm doing from both perspectives when proper troubleshooting would require it to be ruled out.

Re: Input requested for future sar behavior

Hi,

there should be an option to select cumulative output.

Else would it be nice to have an option to suppress output lines (esp. for disk performance!) which contain zero data only, for example:
-Z 0 no zero lines
-Z 1 report only one zero line

The latter requires the holding of the last (n-1) records in memory of course - perhaps we should have a -Z (== -Z 0) only.
