Could anyone that has used the insight manager on HP unix servers before inform me if it is better or close to using EMS.
I understood SIM could monitor more that what EMS could and would like to test it. Actually we are planning to move to using it. Please, take into consideration that we have some clusters on integrity servers and OVO.

Solution
HPSIM is more of an enterprise monitoring application. Monitors such items as hardware (PARISC, ia64, ProLiant) and Storage (MSA, EVA, XP SANs). HPSIM will run on HPUX, Linux (RedHat AS/ES and SUSE 9.x are supported), and winbloz.
Created with security in mind. You will want to use SSH with HPSIM and have it loaded on all servers.
One advantage is that you keep all alerts/alarms in 1 central area. No scouting around various systems looking for that alarm that happened last week.
Has numerous plugins available. Example, WebJetadmin, OVSAM, Ignite, RPM, etc.
Don't see a plugin, create an XML file and load into HPSIM. It will now be there.
Kind of a 1-stop shop for monitoring the enterprise.
I have run on all 3 platforms. I find it best on HPUX and Linux.
EMS is more of an individual systems monitor.
Use EMS on the HPUX systems to send the traps to the HPSIM system and the HPSIM will do the alerting. Can be integreted with paging software as well.
Check out the site http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim
Has lots of info. Also, the newest release is now available ---> 5.00
This is just basic info, read the URL!

Re: Insight Manager vs HP EMS software
This product could be installed as an agent that sends traps to the server or we need to install the server on all unix servers.

Re: Insight Manager vs HP EMS software
You would configure the SNMP to send the traps to the HPSIM server. Agents reside on the servers.
For the ProLiants, there is (an example) the PSP, ProLiant Support Pack. This functions under WIN and LINUX.
