Install HP-UX in rx2660 server

Hi All

We newly brought a rx2660 server. Now we want to install HP-UX. It has booted to EFI shelf. But we don't know how to boot from the OS CD.

Please help us.

Well
From the boot menu, select EFI Shell
At the EFI shell prompt, specify the device name for the DVD-ROM eg fs1:

Shell> fs1:
fs1:\> install

if DVD is not there..use map command to list all devices.

hp-ux 11iv1 (aka 11.11) is only for pa-risc based systems.

Since your system is using itanium2 CPUs, you need to use either 11.23 (11iv2) or 11.31 (11iv3).

It might be the problem why I couldn't install HP-UX on my rx2660 box. Anyway I will try to install V2 instead of V1

Now I can install HP-UX 11 V2. But it doesn't present the hard disk while installing. Anybody have idea ?

How old is the DVD you are installing from? Some of the older DVDs for 11iv2 didn't have the SAS drivers required to install onto a rx2660. Did the unit not come with its own DVDs? I think I'd want to be on the June 06 DVDs or newer to have confidence in this

Is there a way to set the primary path?

This media does not support your hardware.
You need to use a newer release as mentioned above.

Don't care about this.

Your install media is just too old and does not support your hardware - especially the SAS controllers and disks.

Get a newer install media!

You don't mean 'like on a Proliant', you mean 'like on Windows or Linux' as yu can inject install drivers with pretty much any x86 hardware when installing those desktop OSs. HP-UX isn't a desktop OS designed for 1000s of hardware combinations - its designed to run reliably on a small number of specific hardware configurations. If the developers put all their effort into designing installtion procedures that worked like Windows/Linux, there'd never be anything else produced.

No, there's no way to include the SAS drivers, as they need to be in the install kernel, otherwise you simply can't see them when you initially boot from DVD.

You have been given your answer - get a newer set of install media - if you have a support contract for this system, you should just be able to contact HP and get a new set sent to you.

And before you ask, NO they can't be downloaded - you need the physical media.

Incidentally, how did you get yourself in the situation of ordering a new system, and then not getting any install DVDs with the system?

Generally if a customer orders a system *without* a set of install DVDs, the HP-UX OS will come pre-installed, in which case all you need to do is power it up, connect to the console and complete the install by providing hostname and IP information.

Of course if you ordered it with 11iv3, you'll have the wrong version of the OS, and if you ordered it with Linux or Windows, you aren't licensed for HP-UX anyway.

We are the one of a HP partner in Sri Lanka. We have recently get rx2660 down for one of our customer. But this was purchased for the Windows Plat form. Meantime , we wanted to do some demo for another customer with hp-ux. But we have HP-ux 11 v2 relased on 2006 June. That is way we gare getting this issue.

Then you need to take this through your local channel partner contacts in HP. If the system is for demo purposes, then someone in the local HP office will no doubt have a newer set of DVDs they can lend you.

Sorry I can't be more helpful than that, but you really do need the physical DVDs to continue.

The product number for the EOE DVD is BA490AA#AJR. Of course you may also be expected to purchase EOE licenses as well. If you have only 2 cores in the system you will need 1 x BA532AC. If you have 4 cores in the system you will need 2 x BA532AC
