Install HPUX in a VMware

Hi

I need to know if HP supports HPUX in VMware

I know that HPUX runs only in PA-RISC or ITANIUM.

But my question is, if my VMware ESX host server is a ITANIUM Server, when i create a VM(to work with HPUX) i have that architecture.

So can i work with this?

If so, the HP supports this? If the answer is correct, can anyone provide any link with that information?

Many Thanks

Re: Install HPUX in a VMware

VMware ESX doesn't run on Itanium servers so the question is kinda pointless.

The only "Virtual Machines" you can run HP-UX in are HP's HP Integrity Virtual Machines, and you need an Integrity server to do that.

Re: Install HPUX in a VMware

Hi

Thank you all

Duncan,

I know that VMware in ITANIUM was not suported a years ago, but with the new VMware versions, i thought that VMware pass that and now runs

So my idea of running HPUX on the VMware yes is pointless

Johnson Punniyalingam,

The sysdigg link gives a good point about HPUX vs VMware

We need to have a VMware host for several systems(Windows, UNIX, SAP and HPUX), so since all company's want to reduce their budged i thought i propose use VMware to reduce that budged.

So using HPUX on the VMware is out...

Thank you all for the reply

Yes but the sysdigg link explains
that you can do exactly what you want
to do using a similar tool.
Specifically HP Integrity Virtual
Machines (HPVM). You could run HP-UX,
and the Integrity versions of Linux/Windows, etc.
using this tool.

Depending on the HP Integrity hardware you
have, it might also be possible to use
nPartitions and vPars as well.

Re: Install HPUX in a VMware

Hi peter wolfe,

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately i cannot use that "tool" from HP.

Like I said, this infrastructure will have SAP, Oracle, Windows etc., all supported by the VMware itself, and from the company's.

So to use virtualization, i need to use VMware only.

Re: Install HPUX in a VMware

Last time I informed myself, SAP and Oracle do not support installations on VMWare, and Oracle (I don't know for SAP) doesn't recognize VMWare as a partitioning technology to limit your Oracle licenses. If you strictly follow their license terms, you need to pay for the whole hardware.

Re: Install HPUX in a VMware

Hi

Both products are supported by SAP and Oracle in VMware

Oracle officially supports VMware with both Windows and Linux VM's.

Oracle has pre-installed and fully configured
evaluation versions of an Oracle Database(And other products) environment within VMware

Both products have case studies in VMware environment
