Install Powerchute for HPUX
Hi,
We have a problem in installing powerchute software for HP-UX.
Attached is the error log we have.
Fyi, the HP workstation we used is C3600, with serial port 1 and 2.
Below is the action I've confirmed:
1. I have both devices files as listed below:
crw-rw-rw- 1 bin bin 1 0x000000 Sep 4 2002
/dev/tty0p0
crw-rw-rw- 1 bin bin 1 0x010000 Jun 3 2002
/dev/tty1p0
/dev/tty0p0 is used by the tester, so I cannot try on it.
2. Execute ttycheck and here is the output:
[22] % ./ttycheck /dev/tty0p0
[23] % ./ttycheck /dev/tty1p0
unable to open device : No such device or address
My question is how do I add /dev/tty1p0 to this system. Please help.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Best regards,
Terence

Re: Install Powerchute for HPUX
ok, here is a copy/paste:
1 ) Start the utility SAM.
2 ) Once SAM is started, select Peripheral Devices.
3 ) Select Terminals and Modems.
The screen will now display a box that displays all of the currently configured
ttys on the system. It is possible that the box may be empty. The box is divided into four columns. The first column explains the actual name of the port (i.e. /dev/tty0p1). The second column explains the type of port and the third column explains the port number and/or the Hardware path. Finally, the last column includes the Lock Status. The only two items PowerChute cares
about are the Name (Devicefilename) and the Type. The user simply needs to choose the correct port listed (this depends on the type of UPS model).
4 ) Smart-UPS, Matrix-UPS, Advanced port of Share-UPS, SmartSlot Expansion Chassis port, or pass-through port of PowerNet SNMP
Adapter only:
The user must use a Devicefilename associated with Type Terminal. If there is
not type = Terminal, the user simply needs to go to the Actions pull down menu and select create Terminal.
5 ) Back-UPS, Back-UPS Pro, Network PowerCell, Basic port of Share-UPS, or
SmartSlot Interface Expander port only:
The user must use a Devicefilename associated with Type Modem. If there is not type = Modem, the user simply needs to go to the Actions pull- down menu and select create Modem.
6 ) When selecting an item from the Actions pull down menu, simply follow the instructions that follow. The ONLY items PowerChute relies on within the Actions menu is the type (terminal or modem) and the baud rate (2400). There are several options the user can select for UUCP, etc.; these can all be left in their default position. To summarize, the user simply needs to change the baud rate to 2400, after selecting Add Modem or Add Terminal from the Actions pull down menu.
7 ) When the system has completed the task, a Devicefilename will be generated in the box. The user simply needs to specify the appropriate devicefilename during the install; or after the install, edit the powerchute.ini file in the powerchute directory.
8 ) The last item is to edit the /etc/inittab file to insure the port is set to "off" and not "respawn".
best regards,
Kurt
