Installation problems

Hello,

I am trying to install HPUX 1i V2 on an Itanium server with the intention of installing OVOU/NNM etc. However, I am struggling with the HPUX installation. I boot of the DVD and then get the language selection, I then choose option 24 for Uk English. The server then goes straight into system recovery and does not let me select the option to install HP-UX. Can anyone assist with this? Why does it want to try and recover the system? I have cleared the raid configuration and the disks and recreated the raid volumes. So I am assuming that any previous OS installs should have been removed.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Re: Installation problems

Shalom Pritesh,

You are probably having problems with the terminal settings on the console you are using. 11iV1 required EM100 versus prior releases which required hp.

If you are using a serial terminal, try the installation again with the EM100 setttings.

If you include all disks that were installed on the system, then all previous data will be erased. This is not necessary. If you are happy with some of your data, you can leave it in place and import the volume group after installation.

Re: Installation problems

Hi Pritesh,

It could be due to incorrect terminal setting. Follow the 11iV2 userguide for installation and setting up correct terminal.

Re: Installation problems

Hi Steven,

I am using Hyperterminal from a windows server. If I configure my session as autodetect and when the server boots up it has three options:

1) HP type terminals.
2) VT100 type terminals (and VT100 emulators).
3) Wyse 60 type terminals (and Wyse 60 emulators).

I have been using VT100, and that is when I am having the problem as described previously. If I choose HP then the screen is all messed up. I have not tried Wyse 60 yet. Where do I find EM100 setting as you mentioned in your reply?

Thanks

Re: Installation problems

Hi,

Ok that problem is now sorted, you guys were correct. It was a terminal problem. However,I have another problem now. When I go into the raid configuration and create a raid 1 logical drive(there are 2 physical 70GB drives in the machine) it successfully creates the drive. However, HPUX 11iv2 does not see the drives when trying to install. As a test I tried installing Windows Server 2003 64bit for Itanium and that could see the drives fine and carried on with the install. Do you guys have any ideas? The Itanium server is a HP Integrity rx2600.

Thanks
Pritesh

Re: Installation problems

Hi,

Which RAID adapter does your machine have?
Loading OS onto a raid logical drive is slightly different and is mentioned on the manual of that card. The same can be referred to achive this. If the hardcopy of the manual is not available then you can get an online soft copy but you should know the hardware model for that.

Is this the one you have ?
