Installing 11.00 on a K class

I tried to upgrade from 10.2 to 11.0 and got so frustrated that I went for the new install.
Then it would not boot fully because it was trying to mount /net, even though I never asked it to do any automounting. So I booted single user and renamed the nfs.client script.
Then I noticed it refuses to configure the LAN card, even when I manually went into SAM and specified it there. What am I doing wrong?

Oh, by the way, so far I have only installed the Core OS off the boot CD. It looks like it did some patches as well. But I expect that I need to do the extensions CD as well, right?

Re: Installing 11.00 on a K class

Hi Cliff,

I would cd /etc/rc.config.d and manually edit
netconf, setting ip address, subnet, hostname, router,
etc.

Since you didn't mention hardware I can't be specific but you should also go into the lan conf file(s) (maybe ...gsc.., etherconf, ???) and set speed and duplex. I would hard set the speed/duplex on your box and on your switch. Auto-negotiate is not always reliable.

Next I would edit /etc/hosts and make sure that
your hostname and a loopback entry is at least present.

I would make sure the NFS is disabled at this point.

Now reboot.

------------------
All of this assumes that you have the LAN drivers installed for your box. If you are using anything but the built-in interface that is not guaranteed. If that's the case I would be tempted to tell you to re-install the CORE OS and do not configure network.
Next install HWCR bundle from Support CD then install LAN software from Application CD set then install General Release bundle to get the latest fixes. At this point configure your lan/network stuff and you will be flying.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Installing 11.00 on a K class

I agree with most of what was said before, but prefer a different order!
1 Core-OS
2 LAN Drivers
3 Array Drivers
4 QPK1100 from latest release

Why? Sometimes, there are patches that help drivers, and the patches are much more recent than your drivers! I.E. Token and ATM drivers from VAR! Avoids re-patching from the same set later!

Just as a rule of my own, I NEVER UPGRADE!. I have never seen this work on every machine, and the way I see it: If I have to spend even a few hours on a problem after a upgrade, I could have already installed a new core os!

Shannon

Where do I get the array drivers?
