I am new to hpux and I have a new a-class server that currently has hpux 11 on it.
I would like to install 11i on the box, but my only problem, is that I am in sydney and the box is in melbourne.
What would happen if I tried to install 11i from the lan console?
Will the install destroy the currently configured lan console?
or
Will i be ok and have nothing to worry about as long as I dont break anything during the installtion?
Thanks in advance ;)
Andrew

SolutionIf you can currently connect to the lan console, then installing fresh should not be a problem. The install will run independently from the lan console. The lan console is configured under GSP, not from the OS kernel. All you would need to do is either run the install from an ignite server, or have someone mount the CD's.

Re: Installing 11i from Lan Console
Be aware that HP-UX 11i is on 2 CDs. You will be prompted to mount the 2nd CD at some point during the installation. Hopefully you have someone with that ability in Melbourne with the machine.

Re: Installing 11i from Lan Console
You should be fine installing OS using Lan Console. I too am in sydney and administer the A-Class servers in Newzealand, Fiji and PNG and upgraded all from here using Lan Console.
The Lan console has nothing to do with the OS its right its configured in GSP so your installation will not touch the Lan console.

Re: Installing 11i from Lan Console
configuration of LAn console doesn't have any relation of OS configuration so you can use your LAN console without any problem for installation.

Re: Installing 11i from Lan Console
Thanks for you reply's.
I have since tried to install 11i, but when the server boots off the cd it says "Not valid HP Term" and aborts the installation...
I am using the "VT host for unix and digital" terminal emulator in Reflection X v10.
btw - this is through connecting to the lan console...
