installing 11i on a K460

I am about to install 11i on a K460. As part of my pre install planning I have scanned the Forum for any possible gotcha's and read the latest 11i docs. According to the June 2003 installation and update guide (5187-2774) there are no specific firmware requirements for the K460, but reading other streams of the forum tell me different. Can someone please point me at a definitive firmware requirement for a K460.
BTW I have been installing 11 & 11i for some years and have only ever had a firmware problem on a D Class server.

PROBLEM

What is the minimum firmware required to perform an upgrade
from HP-UX 11.00 to 11i on an HP 9000/K360 system?


CONFIGURATION

Operating System - HP-UX
Version - 11i
Hardware System - 9000
Series - K360

RESOLUTION

The minimum PDC (Processor Dependent Code) firmware required
for a K360 (Kx60) is: 39.43. However, if an HSC A6685A Fibre
Channel Card is to be installed, then the minimum firmware
revision is 41.33.

There is nothing under the firmware documentation for version 39.43 that says its required for 11i, and in fact were running K460's with older versions on 11i aok.

I think its only a recommendation. But the firmware update procedure is easy, and the latest available for a K460 is 39.43 so I see no reason to install it - just to stop one of the bugs it fixes which is a system hang!

Do yourself a favour and load the firmware whilst you have the opportunity to do so. You may not get another chance for a while. If the firmware fixes hangs, don't wait do it today. It is fairly easy loading firmware. (why does this sound like a real estate agen ...)

I believe the above mentioned recommendations are only for the ability to boot over Fibre Channel (with specific cards). However, just because HP doesn't require the patches, your disk array vendors may require them.

Fibre Channel is a special breed, and it requires care and feeding.
