Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

First connect to the switch and create a (port based) zone. Then boot from the installer dvd. After the initial scan done by the installer, the eva is aware of your server. Create a vdisk and present. Now let the installer scan the hardware again.
The installer will now see the disk - ready to proceed with installation...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

Hi MSN,

I suppose you have not followed the 'crystal clear' steps suggested by Torsten.

Once you configure Switch(note: u would need WWN no of HBA on SD, which you can find from shell), by zoning or otherwise, the disks are seen by server on which the OS will be installed when you boot from your CD/DVD.

Hi there
I did the torlsten steps but my problem is that the DVDROM can not load the DVD1 of HP-ux 11.23 boot file...
I do sure the DVDROM and The DVDROM don't have any problem...

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

Hi MSN,

Try using another DVD as it clearly says
'Load of DVD failed: Not Found'.

Check if you can read DVD on another server or PC, if so, try changing Drive.

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

The EVA will need to know the WWID of your HBA. You can get this from your SAN Switch. Also The EVA may well auto detect the WWID.

Add the host to the EVA using the correct WWID then add some LUN's and present them to the host. This is all done on the EVA.

It is also possible that the DVD option in your EFI boot menu is not pointing to the correct location. When your system powers up you should see output similar to the following. (this was done on an rx8640 so it will be somewhat different).

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5703) is detected (PCI-X)

Sure?

I have already seen the same scenario with a bent pin in the cable that connects the DVD - check please!

The drive was detected, but during boot not found.

Hope this helps!

Hi Trolsten
Yeah I checked the cable before!!!

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

As said above, I have seen exactly the same - the cable was the culprit!

Sometimes 2 pins get in the same hole, this is really hard to see.

BTW, is your DVD drive a HP product?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

Looks like you can see the DVD OK.
Case does not matter at the EFI prompt, also the .EFI is optional try just typing it without the .efi extension.

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

If the DVD drive is an external drive also check the SCSI terminator on the drive. As Torsten says they can cause all sorts of havoc on a SCSI bus.

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

It's weird since the system obviously sees the DVD and can see the file when you do an ls command.
Do you happen to have another copy of HP-UX that you can try in the drive? maybe the media is having a problem. Just a guess at this point.

Re: Installing HP-UX + SUPERDOME

Torsten is right you should have a top level directory that has:

Swap fs0 for my fs2

Directory of: fs2:\

01/10/06 05:19p 541,306 INSTALL.EFI

01/10/06 05:19p 174 STARTUP.NSH

Try using the INSTALL.EFI file.
