We have a rx7620 based servers using EVA3000 storage and running HP-UX B11.23.
We had a power outage in our datacenter.
Since then we have restarted the machine,
after the machine restart I am unable to see the diskgroups on the EVA, and the ioscan -funC disk comes back with the below shown results.
I have refered to the itrc website where this gentelman "Ben Dehner" had a similar problem, but seems he has a different issue.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1117490
We have tried to restart the Fibre switch, The EVA and then the machine.. no luck.
Also this is on a 2 node cluster, we are unable to see the storage from either members.
Since these disk groups are used as VGs for the Serviceguard packages, the packages also fails to start. I have verified if the vg is in a stale state. I cannot do vgchange, I cannot do a vgdisplay.... I have copied the results of vgchange and vgdisplay as well.
Thanks in advance for all your valuable suggestions.
Regards
Kaushik

SolutionBut let's start with the basics.
First run "ioscan -fnCfc" to get the device names of the FibreChannel HBAs. Then use "fcmsutil
If the physical connection is OK and the HBAs are seeing the light from the switch (and vice versa), the EVA and/or the switch may have lost its configuration data. I hope you have the configurations of the EVA and the switch well documented. If you have actually backed up the configuration data somewhere safe, that would be great.

No thats the HBA in the server - at the other end of the cable coming out of your server will be a FC switch - what model is that?

N_Port Node World Wide Name = 0x50060b0000300cfd
N_Port Port World Wide Name = 0x50060b0000300cfc
Now connect to the switch and check the status of the ports, e.g. B-series "switchshow"
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
it'll be good to run
ioscan -fnH 1/0/4/1/0
and
ioscan -fnH 0 0/0/12/1/0
to check if you see other devices for example domains.
maybe after that you can check switchshow/zoneshow etc on the switches.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
Once again thank you all for your valuable replies.
Mridul : The reset command apparently will abort the communication to all nodes. Is it safe to run this command or do I have to do anything else before I can run this ?
Duncan, Torsten : Since I am not onsite, I am trying to get someone to connect to the switch to try the switchshow command & also to find out the model of the FC switch.
Michal : I have copied the results of the two commands you have asked for. I observed one strange behaviour. I have tried this command on both members of the cluster. These commands give more info on one node and not so much on the other. ( nuncas01 & nuncas02 are the two members)

looks like you are able to see the SAN drives. If not,can u rescan the drives by running the command #ioscan -fnC disk
lets see the system can detect the drives or not.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
Are you using something like securepath? because we're looking on sdisks from HSV100 controler from HW pathes 255/255/0/*. This adress is ussually reserved by securepath devices.
As you can see CLAIMED sdisks with HW pathes 1/0/4/1/0 and 0/0/12/1/0 we will not find any problem with SAN or somebody changed SAN infrastructure.
Check if you are running spagent
# ps -ef | grep spagent
and try to check spmgr
# spmgr display -d
# spmgr display -a
This command should show you some output with devices grouped under securepath.

I forgot to put verbose to command
# spmgr display -dv
will display all devices which are configured via securepath
# spmgr display -av td0
will display all devices mapped via /dev/td0 adapter
# spmgr display -av td1
will display devices visible via /dev/td1
pls could you paste this outputs here? after that we should check securepath on the system.
also pls run
# ioscan -fn | grep NO_HW
to check if you have really refreshed ioscan output (and not something what is cached). Sometime it happens that ioscan -fnC disk don't show exact info

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
It has been some time since I have started this thread. We had a few issues in resolving this problem. We had a few hardware problems and other problems with this. We had a cache battery failure infact both battries were busted. We have now replaced the cache batteries and sorted out all the other issues ( nothing to do with hardware or the OS ). We are having a different problem. These clusters are configured with redundant fiber cards, san switches etc. When I run the "fcmsutil" command on the two cards I see on card is ONLINE and the other is UNINITIALIZED. Dont understand why and how to make it online.
Thanks and regards
Kaushik

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
You should check the switch setting for this port, the port on the switch and the server itself and last but not least the cable.
The server can't see any light from the switch and vice versa, probably.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
That was indeed a problem with no_light.
What I found from the SAN switches, the no_light corresponds to the td1 port.
However what I dont understand is we have dual fibre cards and they are both configured. And I still cannot see the HSV disks. I am an not sure what is the problem.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
on one switch there is a connection between the switch and the EVA, on the second switch there is a connection from the switch to the server - BUT there is no connection between the server and the EVA!
Check the cabling and ports again.
Maybe the cables are "twisted" and receiver meets receiver but not transceiver.
Be aware of the laser light, but can you see a red light coming out of the ports (you can use a sheet of paper and hold it in front of the port).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
I found something else as well.
We have secure agent installed as well on these clusters.
VVT-nuncas01-TeMIP # spmgr display

All devices on this Storage System are either deleted or not discovered.
I dont know if I should be worried.
I dont have any experience on spagent.

Re: ioscan -funC disk shows NO_HW
While going through some of the threads in the forum I found the command "fcmsutil /dev/td0 get remote all".
When I run this command on our hardware this is what I get

No device found.

I can understand when I chose td1 I get No Device found. However for td0 the target state is "DVS_UNOPENED". Can please shed some light.
Thanks and regards
