Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

I'd start by stape and schgr drivers. Are their status In and In in the kernel ?

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Hi,

I think MSL or any other tape library is never shown with their names in the ioscan output. The only thing visible in ioscan for the MSL should be autoch and the drives.
So try

#ioscan -fnC tape
#ioscan -fnC autoch

If these are not listed in the ioscan output or are listed as unknown then check their drivers in the kernel.

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Hi,

I can't display special file of library.

# kmsystem | grep sctl
esctl N -
sctl Y -
# kmsystem | grep -i schgr
schgr Y -
# ioscan -fnC tape
# ioscan -fnC autoch

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

can you post the output of your

ioscan -fn

command here if you don't mind ?

looks like it is either being listed as unknown device or there is a connection problem and it is not being seen by the system at all ?

How is it connected to your server ? By a fiber-optic fabric ? Any fiber swithces ? If so, is the zoning done properly ?

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Hi Jose,

This is normal. I also have same on my backup server attached with a ESL9000.

Does ioscan detects tape drives and autoch.

Have you allocated hosts through interface manager?

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Normaly the box should be CLAIMED by schgr driver. Most admins don't include this driver, because they are running omniback/data protector and don't need it. So the status is "unknown". But if you want to run diag tools (stm/library & tape tools) you will need the driver.

Hope this helps!

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

unless this bizzare device

unknown -1 0/7/2/0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI

is the MSL6000 (very highly unlikely) your system does not even see the darn thing and I think it is connected via fiber channel connection ? Are you sure there aren't any zoning issues ?

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

I can't find any MSL box or tape drive. How is it connected? If fc connected, is the mapping configured properly? Are you using zoning?

Hope this helps!

Jose,

I browsed a few of your past questions - there is never a result or assignment. That's not fair. Many of us are trying to help you - but we all want to know the result.

Hope this helps!

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Hi Jose

Following drivers are required for MSL6000 to work in hp-ux 11.11

stape and schgr

Above drivers can be configured to be IN in kernel configuration. You may use SAM to do so

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Hi Jose,

can you clear some of my questions,

Is your librarys is connectead through san or scsi..?

If it is conectead to san,

Is Zoning is enabled in your san enviormrnt, If enabled first you need to add your fc router address to zoning configuration?

And you need to do two mapping also

You need to map the ultium drives to your scsi router and and need to add the host also,and assign the drive map to hosts..

If your accessing the library through scsi, It should show the drives and the robotic arm, Because from your previus replays i can see the drivers sctl and stape is already there,

Thanks and regards,

Siju

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Jose,

How about the output as the command below;

tddiag|egrep -i stape

you have to see something like;

42 tape 41 0/0/4/0/0.1.2.0.0.15.2 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
245 tape 42 0/0/4/0/0.1.2.0.0.15.3 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
254 tape 8 0/0/4/0/0.1.2.255.0.0.2 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
257 tape 7 0/0/4/0/0.1.2.255.0.0.3 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
311 tape 43 0/0/6/0/0.1.2.0.0.0.2 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
314 tape 44 0/0/6/0/0.1.2.0.0.0.3 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI

Re: ioscan of HPUX not display MSL6000

Also,
assuming your MSL6000 series attached SAN
so there must be a card NSR
what about the output of;
tddiag|egrep -i sctl
and try to see something like;
156 ctl 60 1/10/0/0.1.2.255.0.0.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE HP NS E1200-160
