ioscan - scsi ids

Hi,
I have HP-MCSG Clustered with 2 nodes and SCSI chained. The SCSI initiator ids on both the nodes show,
0/6/2/0.7.0

Should the SCSI initiator ids be different on both the nodes?

Thanks
Karthik

Re: ioscan - scsi ids

is this hw path one of the shared paths?
if so, then they MUST be different scsi id's
If it is not a shared bus, then no problem.

Re: ioscan - scsi ids

They absolutely must be different; typically one is left at 7 and the other is set to 6. Depending on your platform and SCSI HBA, ioscan may not display the remote controller. In any event, all devices on a bus MUST have unique ID's.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: ioscan - scsi ids

Hi,
How would I proceed to change the SCSI ids?

Thanks,

Re: ioscan - scsi ids

Since you haven't told us your hardware, that's difficult to know. You typically pull the card and move jumpers but some can be configured from the firmware monitor.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi,
I was told by the HP support to change is throught the firmware. How would I proceed doing it.

Thanks

Re: ioscan - scsi ids

Since you still haven't identified your hardware, I can't tell you for certain. Typically, you interrupt the boot process. You should see a SCSI command. You should identify the device path and issue a SCSI ID command. There should be a help command and a HELP SCSI command in the firmware monitor.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: ioscan - scsi ids

Being new to HPUX, I've come looking for an answer to a similar question. I'd like to do what i'm used to doing with Sun hardware, have two servers on the one SCSI bus. I just need to know, if possible, how to change the SCSI initiator ID on a particular SCSI controller.

in my case i have;

ext_bus 6 0/4/2/0/4/0 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C896 Ultra2 Wide LVD
target 9 0/4/2/0/4/0.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
ctl 6 0/4/2/0/4/0.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
/dev/rscsi/c6t7d0
