Re: ioscan shows no_hw
How are you running your ioscan? You need to query the hardware not the kernel, so if you're using "ioscan -k", you shouldn't be.
Try "ioscan -fn" - if that doesn't do it, I think you'll have to reboot.

Re: ioscan shows no_hw
I am afraid you will have to load the stape driver in the kernel. So you will have to reboot.

Re: ioscan shows no_hw
check cableing, power termination of the device, anything chained off of it.
Did you set the scsi address properly when installing the device?
Did it ever work? If not is stape in the kernel(still should be claimed) drivers section.

Re: ioscan shows no_hw
If the server was turned on, then try a hard reboot and hope everything is still working.

Re: ioscan shows no_hw
when HP changed the drive did they shut the server down ?
I presume we are talking about an internal tape drive not external please advise.
I dont believe there are hot plugable tape drives can you post the model number for us to check.

Re: ioscan shows no_hw
Looks like you are right. HP told us that the drive was hot pluggable but we may need to reboot afterwards in order to see the drive. But I was just informed that the change was canceled because the server needs to be powered down. No avoiding Sunday morning work.
