IPL error: bad LIF magic when booting core o/s from internal cdrom

the server is an L1000-44, currently on 11.11
When I try to use any boot cd (hpux11i v1 or hpux11iv2) it throws up hardware faults and complains of IPL error: bad LIF magic.

I've tried using application disks in the drive when using swinstall & it can see them ok, so cdrom drive is working ok.

The command I type in when booting is:-

boot alt P3

(P3 0/0/2/1.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP DVD-ROM 304
/dev/dsk/c3t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c3t2d0)

Is a part of the LIF area damaged?
(attatchment is output from lifls)

Paul,
could you please provide a bit more background.
Did you have a crash and lost the lifboot or are you trying to install new OS?
Basically, how did you get into this situation.

Too possibilities. Bad CD hardware.

OR

CD hardware that is not supported for boot up. Is this a standard CD player that came with the machine? If so, check the SCSI termination on the bus and if it still doesn't work with multiple bootable CDs then its broke HW and you need to open a case with HP.

Re: IPL error: bad LIF magic when booting core o/s from internal cdrom

a bit more background:-

I have recently inherited this server, i.e. it is currently unused.
I want to install the latest o/s (hp 11iv2)
The current o/s (hpux 11iv1) boots up ok and is stable, and as stated previously, the CDROM will pickup s/w viewed through swinstall, but it can't see either o/s install disks for hpux 11iv1 or hpux11iv2 (former disk definately works on other machines, latter disk is brand new).
This machine doesn't seem to have any expansion cards (we do have an external DVD available if necessary).
