IPv6 removal
IPv6 was incorrectly installed on 2 of our servers by another SysAdmin.
Is it safe to remove the product, or will this break my current network config?
What would I need to do to remove the entire product?

Re: IPv6 removal
swremove won't let you remove it if there are dependencies. Give it a practice run before you do it live.

Re: IPv6 removal
it is also unlikely to really affect much if you leave it in - at least so long as you don't try to bring-up any v6 interfaces.

Re: IPv6 removal
Straight selection of the product from the top level causes a whole bunch of cumulative patches to come up with complaints about being removed.
I simply drilled down a level, selected the product only (the associated patches were also listed, and I ignored them), and did the remove.
The removal required a kernel rebuild and a reboot.
All went well, and the only side-effect seems to be that the process destroyed all the PTY special-files !!!!!
A simple insf -e rectified this.....
Luckily we didn't have IPv6 configured into the network services, otherwise I predict there might have been more work....
Why did I remove the product?
The customer was performing RCPs with strange names in the path that include the ":" and "." characters, and despite creative use of quotes and use of variables, INET still attempted to translated these names as IPv6 addresses.....
We tested this morning, and all is working OK. I'll have to remember this for later.....
