irrelevant ascii print output
hi,
We have a d-class running Hp UX 10.20 with progress and MFG-Pro. All users connect to the server usning either win 95 or win 98 machines running IBM Emulator or Onnet for telnet emulation.
Although most print jobs are given to network printers (All HP Lasers) some user need to print locally on dot matrix machines. When printouts are given locally to the dot matrix printers it always prints one or two ascii characters(like the shape of a box) before it actually prints out the data.
These machines give perfect windows txt printouts if printed from windows applications. I was just wondering whether I can relate this as a Unix problem or a windows problem since as far as I know all output from unix is in txt format. Our Mfg Pro engineers even tried changing the code but nothing is working. I connected a dot matrix directly to the server and it gives a perfect text print, so I Unix is giving the right output.
I am guessing that this is an emulator problem, but I tried various demo versions of differnt emulators that I download but non seem to help. Can someone tell me where the fault is and what is the solution.
Thankx,
Trent

Re: irrelevant ascii print output
Hello Trent,
I guess those printers are setup as "hp laserjet" or
such - have you tried using them as "dumb" printers?
HTH,
Wodisch
