Re: Is any one using HP Itanium servers in their environment?

Hi ,

Performance for the itanium servers are good.

HP-UX 11i Version 2 is stable and I do not see any major reasons why should not prefer this platform.

If you have any specific question in mind we can try addressing that.

Cheers,
Mohan.

Re: Is any one using HP Itanium servers in their environment?

We run 2 x rx7620 systems using 11.23.
We have found that although the performance is better, it is not quite as good as claimed. However in HP's defence, our selected application may not be as good either.

Be wary of how you set up you disk management, it could bite you if not done with plenty of thought.
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

One further thought. When using 'ioscan -fn' it is extremely fast.

A fresh install from the core DVD can take as little as 50 minutes to do.

Re: Is any one using HP Itanium servers in their environment?

SAP/Oracle on IPF

2*rx7620
4*rx2600

1*EVA, 2Tb database in RAID1

Performances are very good.
There are only some problems with autofs and bdf (it locks on nfs server down), but patch is expected or september.

We had no problems till now, running for 700+ online users.

You can use windows (or linux) also on it, if you like :)

PA are going to be discontinued, even if not soon, so it's only a matter of when.

BUt remember that you cannot cross compile: to develop on an itanium, you need itanium.

TO develop on PA, you need PA.

BTW, DP is not supported on IPF, so you must take care deciding what to put on it.

Massimo

Re: Is any one using HP Itanium servers in their environment?

Hi Massimo,

Dataprotector support for 11.23 is available as Media agent and disk agent. This is for the Dataprotector 5.1.

Check the below URL for the same,

Re: Is any one using HP Itanium servers in their environment?

HI Mohanasundaram,

I was too fast in the writing.

THere are many limitations on the sw that you can install on a 11.23, like you say.

MA, DA, SAP integrations are supported.

EVA, CM are NOT supported. In this case, i preferred to be a little conservative, since i incurred in these limitations :). I had to buy a PA to install the CM, and ad auxiliary rx to mount and EVA snapshot, done by hand.

But you are absolutely right!
