Solution11.00 to 11.23 :
a)root disk on LVM, other FS could be on VXVM
b)only LVM.
11.23 onwards :
a) root disk could be on VXVM(rootability) with a option of other FS in LVM.
b) root disk could be on LVM ,optionally other FS in VXVM.
c) Only VXVM
or d) only LVM

Re: is it possible to use vxvm and lvm together ?
Yes it is quite possible. Upto Vxfm3.5 rootdg was mendatory which need not be the one having your OS file systems but from VxVM 4.0 onwards which is supported in HPUX 11iV2 Sept 2005 onwards, you need not to have rootdg.
You can even convert from a LVM VG to VxVM dg.

Devender

Re: is it possible to use vxvm and lvm together ?
We use LVM for our system and swap disks.
We use VxVM for all the rest (mostly SAN disk storage.)
The reason mainly why we sticked wth LVM was historical.. we started off mainly with LVM and migrated to VxVM. We decided it will be less trouble leaving the OS and swap disks managed by LVM so we do not have to change our DR, Ignite and OS recovery procedures.
Note that at 11.11 (which can only go up to VxVM 3.5) -- a small unused rootdg diskgroup is necessary even if you will not use VxVM to manage your OS/swap disks...

Re: is it possible to use vxvm and lvm together ?
Dear Bond,
Incase of specific needs like RAID5 or striping you have to go for VxVM only. In such case where your system's root disk are under LVM, you can go ahead and install vxvm and make the new disks/filesystems alone in vxvm.
Regards,
Siva.
