Re: Is there any version of Internet Explorer ?

Hello,

Yes you can use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 with SP1 on HP-UX 11.0. I myself have never tried installing it, however it is available for download from Microsoft's ftp site:

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/deskapps/ie/unix/hp/ie5_sp1

I would use Netscape Communicator for a browser on my HP-UX workstation as it seems to be the most compatilble browser around and is easily installed on most *NIX platforms.

As much as I hate to admit it, IE on the Windows side is the fastest browser around, although I still disklike the tactics Microsoft uses when bundling IE with their operating systems.

Anyway, take a look at the readme.hp.txt in the directory listed above on Microsoft's ftp site and you should find everything you need to get IE working on HP-UX 11.0.

Hope that helps.

Re: Is there any version of Internet Explorer ?

Hi,

Please remember about required patches, especially XSWGR1100 bundle. As I remember Version 5.00.3314 requires SW bundle from December 2000.

Re: Is there any version of Internet Explorer ?

Yes, Internet Explorer 5.0 exisrts. You must patch the machine, it is better to apply the latest patches, but the minimum patch requirement is the December 2000. The Internet does not run as root, only as user !!!!
After check your graphic settings, you should apply the best color setiings that you can have also. Internet explorer is really well working on my J5600 with 11.11. Have fun!

Re: Is there any version of Internet Explorer ?

Hi,

look at the MS site at: http://www.microsoft.com/unix/ie/
to get IE 5.0 SP1. We are running it on all our HP-UX 11.0 systems and are pretty satified with it - at least it's not worse than Netscape 4.79, which is the alternative. You can even use Outlook Express.
There isn't much support at the MS or HP site, so you're pretty alone besides this forum, maybe.

They have certain installation requirements about patches. Today it will probably say that your patch status it too new, and will not start. In this case you will have to modify the start script to skip certain checks.

Have fun. At least it's fun seeing Microsoft software running on HP-UX. And this shows: they can do it - if they want.

Re: Is there any version of Internet Explorer ?

Why? IMHO M$ IE does not belong on HP-UX. Why put bloat on a stable environment. I'd recomment Mozilla-1.1 (http://www.mozilla.org/releases/ ). It's free and stable and better and not M$
Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn

Re: Is there any version of Internet Explorer ?

I install and use this due to compatability problems with netscape, to be quite honest it's easier installing a more widely accepted browser than creating two pages for different browser compliance,.. in any case, the install is tricky because miscrospot asks for loads of software to be installed beforehand... just modify the /usr/local/microsoft/sms/platform_requirements.csv espically if you've installed software of a greater rev than miscorslkfjsdflksdgfkj wants.
