Is Virtual Partitions Version A.02.02 stable?
Server - rp7400
Unix 11.11
The rp7400 is partitioned 3 ways.
Problem:
All of the services died. After logging into the system console, 'ps -ef | more' shows nothing running. I have to manually start the network daemons, rpc and so on. This has happened twice with no indication as to why it is happening. Nothing in syslog.log, OLDsyslog.log, dmesg, shutdownlog and shell histories.
Can this be a related to the version of vpar (A.02.02)? Has anyone else ran across this problem?
Note: This was not a system hack. No run ran a init 1 or shutdown. The security on these machines are very tight

Re: Is Virtual Partitions Version A.02.02 stable?
Last I heard they pulled that version due to problems. We have an rp8400 and they stated the problems didn't affect that server but did affect the rp7400's.
Here is what the download states:
HP-UX 11i Virtual Partitions (vPars) version A.02.02 does not boot properly on rp5405, rp5470, rp7400, L3000, and N4000 servers using PA8700 processors. vPars customers should use vPars version A.02.01 until a patch is available by the end of April 2003. More information about this issue, including how to return to vPars version A.02.01, can be found on HPs ITRC at http://itresourcecenter.hp.com/ and in a news bulletin at the HP software depot website http://www.software.hp.com/RELEASES-MEDIA/.
NOTE: vPars version A.02.02 downloads (VPARSBASE) have been temporarily suspended due to the aforementioned boot hang issue on p7400/N4000 and rp5470/rp5405/L300 servers with PA8700 processors.
Not sure if that is effecting you or not....

Re: Is Virtual Partitions Version A.02.02 stable?
I've been waiting for the promised fix (end of April). It is now end of May. Wondering if anyone knew when it will show up?

Re: Is Virtual Partitions Version A.02.02 stable?
Patch PHSS_28764 apparently addresses the issue of booting vpmon on pa8700-based systems.
