issue after 10.2 to 11.0 upgrade
got error"check perm. and ownership /etc/pam.conf.
-r--r--r root sys /etc/pam.conf root not owner
HP had me copy pam.conf from /usr/newconfig/etc
to /etc and chown root:sys and we could log on.
Today from this box I can't rlogin or telnet
to another box. Get this error, "could not
retrieve authentication type"
ANyone seen and fixed this before.
Thanx
Mike

Re: issue after 10.2 to 11.0 upgrade
I don't knowos that problem. But those problem
are telling me, that you don't do an upgrade but a fresh install.
A lot of upgrades gives problems.
I think this is not the last problem that you find.
Goodluck !!

Re: issue after 10.2 to 11.0 upgrade
interupt the boot process and change the owner of the pam.conf, i forget what owner to give it but its not the same owner on 11.00 as it is on 10.20 ... i suggest loggin on another 11.00 system and giving it all the same permissions
but once that was cleared i believe ther ewill be many more problems after that
my advice ...do not upgrade, just do fresh install and reload aplications and restore data

Re: issue after 10.2 to 11.0 upgrade
This includes Solaris, AIX, Irix, HP-UX, Linux.
The Upgrade tries to preserve system state as well as the user base. Since there are so many ways to change/customize/configure the same things in UNIX, this can cause problems.
You will probably find that even if you boot into single user mode and fix the permissions on pam's stuff, you will have other problems as well.
There are lots of ways to preserve the system for a cold install. Even restore VG's if you know what your doing.
Sorry it is not good news!
