Here is a sample file system. I put some data on it for test.

I use this script :

You'll have to change parameters such as partition size and other little things.
Depending on chunkSize and sleepTime, this will take time. Lots of time. It will take blocks of a given size in the original FS and will copy them to a rescue File. If dd isn't succesfull, it will put zeros instead. If you take smaller chunk, you will recue more, but it will take longer time.
Once it's done, you've got a backup of your FS with zeros in place of broken blocks (and probably lots of hanging dds). If you dd it to a blank partition, you can then fsck it to try to recover some data. If it can't, then I think, the logs are broken, and for the journaled FS, it's a very bad thing...

After dd it back to FS and remount, I have the same as before :

Maybe I'm missing something. It's a little script I took a little time to write, and it may not act exactly as you want. It will take a very long time, but I think you will take as many time as it needs :)

lowster, yes I did, and it is not interesting because of two reasons

1. It only supports ext2 and ext3, and I need reiserfs, so useless
2. It is not free

Fred, thanks, I'll play with that, but since my FS structure is gone, I give myself little to no hope

With regards to your filesystem, I think its pretty much done. If you could take the whole disk to a recovery specialist, it might get put back together, but it also might cost $1000 and yeild no results.

Note: I'm moving all my webservers from my home offices(home is sold and under contract) to new facilities between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. today. All hpux.ws and hpuxconsulting.com websites will be offline during this move.

Apologies for the disruption, more to come on that front.
