java performance tuning

Java Experts,
I have java (Java 2 RTE 1.3.) installed on a 11i box (9000/831/D350). Its a pretty old box. Websphere application server is also running.

The performance is awfully slow. It takes a lot of time to compile the programs as well as running them on the Application server.

Where to start with? Any inputs are welcome.

TIA

Re: java performance tuning

Hi Umapathy,

I'm no Java expert, but I'd suggest getting the HP Jconfig program and running it. It will suggest kernel tuning parameters to help your Java performance. I haven't run it, but one of my team mates tried it recently. It might not help much if your box is old and underpowered, but it is worth a try.

Here is the link for Jconfig:

Re: java performance tuning

Here is what I have found true.

If you tune the box(kernel, etc) java will run just fine.

Web sites with java aren't very hard on the PA-RISC architecture. I'll bet your load factors are pretty low.

I'm not an expert though, but we run a lot of java(oracle,apache...).
