JFS 3.0 and ACL

I all,

I receive a new server to support. The server was already install by someone else and the guys left the cie.

After taking a quick look, I saw something really strange. All the permission of JFS mounted directory in / (i.e. /var /usr /tmp...) finish with a (+) sign. For me this said this directory has some ACL permission.

The strange think is ACL doesn't work on JFS 3.0, only with JFS 3.3. I'm pretty sure JFS 3.3 is not installed on that machine (I do a swlist).

How this is possible. And how can I remove this !@*(#!*&@# acl permission because this create me many error message in pax (pax: z/a/s/d Optional ACL entries are not backed up.)

Help wanted....

Re: JFS 3.0 and ACL

Hi,

For removing acl entries, you can use 'chacl' command. See the man pages of chacl, setacl. acl etc. Also see this for more information on ACL:

Re: JFS 3.0 and ACL

Just because JFS 3.3 doesnt come up in swlist doesnt mean its not installed. Swlist could be mistaken. Does this directory exist;
/usr/lbin/fs/vxfs3.3

If so it looks like youve got, or had, JFS 3.3 installed.

JFS3.0 can use ACL's, just not everything will work with them - backups, copying files etc.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: JFS 3.0 and ACL

HI
If you see + sign you have ACLs.
Check swlist output to check for presence of the JFS3.3 on your system.
Use getacl/setacl to see/change acls on files.

Thanks.
Prashant.
Take it as it comes.
