JRE download

What is the latest JRE Version?

Is there any location wherein I can download the latest JRE software? Note: I want only the JRE software and nothing else.

I have been searching the site but have been only getting the download option for SDK and not for JRE only.

Re: JRE download

Hi,

The website you have seen should be this:

http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/

which will contain SDK & RTE (Runtime Environment, Standard editons) to be install on HP-UX.

unless you are referring to this JRE:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/win_manual.jsp

which will bring you to the other platforms.

Re: JRE download

I actually downloaded the JRE 1.3.1 software but had a small query regarding its contents.

In 1.1.8 there is a jre executable present in the bin directory but in 1.3.1 there is no jre executable but a java exe in the bin. Functionality wise do the exe perform the same function. Why is this change been done

Also, during downloading I am getting the software as a .depot is it availble as .tar. if not, during installing the depot the software getting installed in /A/B/opt/java1.3 but I would like it to be /A/B/java1.3 Is this possible in any way to get this done..

Thanks in advance

Re: JRE download

Hi All,

I would like re-phrase my questions:

1. Is a jre.tar file available? I had a look at the site mentioned but when I download the software it gets downloaded as a .depot?
Is it possible that even the JRE 1.1.8 version that I obtain has been obtained as .depot. One of my clients has extracted the same(swinstall) and once the software has been obtained tar'd the same, thus providing me with a .tar file which my script is using?
In other words a tar version of JRE is not available at all but it is customised to our requirement? I am not sure if this is possible but would like to have your opinions and feasability of this

2. the JRE exec. is available is 1.1.8 but not in 1.3.1 Is there any reason? My applications run the jre exec. and hence if this is not available upgrading to the latest JRE version would cause my application not to run.

3. I am adding a additional questiona, is it possible to get a netscape .tar file? The reason being the same as above. My script install netscape as .tar(4.75) but now clients wants it to be upgraded to 7.0. But on the net I am getting only a .depot file and not a .tar file. Has it been customised to our requirement or is it available somewhere on the net as a .tar file?

I know there are a lot of questions but the answers to the above would help solve a big issue.

Thanks in advance
