I want to put a new SCSI Disk in the external SCSI Tower of my HP D210.
IOSCAN-Report: see attachement.
The Tower can contain 7 Discs, and 5 are mounted. Now I want to add a new one. The Question is how I have to set the jumpers in the Tower. There are 3 switches per Disk available (1,2,4). Must the switched Number be the same as the last Number in the HW-Path of IOScan? Have I set some Jumpers on the Disk too? The Disk is a Seagate Barracuda ST39216N.
Thanks for any help!
Best Regards
Daniel :-))

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
Vielen Dank f?r Deine Infos

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
i agree with Juergen, your (single ended) scsi path is full:
5 disks, 1 cdrom, 1 dds-tape.
Your new disk ST39216N is an ultra-scsi disk which could not be connected to FWD-SCSI.

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
replacing the disk depends on how it is used.
If the disk is mounted with its full capacity without LVM you could do:
- backup the data from the mount point where the disk is mounted
- comment the mount in /etc/fstab to prevent mount errors after replacing the disk
- shutdown the server
- replace disk
- boot the system
- make new filesystem on the new disk (newfs -F {hfs|vxfs} /dev/rdsk/cXtXd0)
- uncomment mount in /etc/fstab
- mount the disk and finaly restore the data.
If the disk is used with LVM your job will be much more complex.
To get information on how the disk is used type
bdf
and look for the first column.
If you see similar /dev/dsk/cXtXd0 the disk is used without LVM. Otherwise you see several /dev/vgXX/lvolX

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
Ich w?rde so vorgehen:
1. /data4 sichern
2. umount /data4
3. vgchange -a n /dev/vgb4
4. vgexport /dev/vgb4
5. Platten umbauen

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
Richtig?

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
on the delivery note is written 9 GB SE SCSI Disk compatibel.
To check, if I understood the constallation:
The 16/5 controller is an U/W controller, but the ST39216N is only SE-SCSI.
That means I can use the Disk on that controller, but instaed of a defect or old one and not as a additional one.
Is that right?
Many Greetings

Re: Jumper Settings new SCSI Disk
The 16/5 bus can only SE SCSI. But the bus is full.
The disk is a ultra scsi. The two other controller in your system are F/W (SCSI-2).
Im not sure, you can use the new disk on a F/W controller.
