kcmond hogging CPU time

Can I simply kill "kcmond" and restart it. If so, what is the preferred procedure for such. It is hogging valuble CPU time on our HP-UX 11.23 system (rx4640). Please consult.

Re: kcmond hogging CPU time

Shalom Joe,

Its part of a web based kernel changing program.

You might want to check the docs before just killing the process.

Re: kcmond hogging CPU time

I'm notincing the same behaviour here, kcmond takes alot of resources sporadically. It seems to wake up each minute to consume 80% of the CPU.

I do find kcusage VERY useful, so I'd like to keep kcmond. Being an simple daemon and not a kernel service, I'd be very tempted to nice it. Anybody tried that?

Re: kcmond hogging CPU time

I have a customer with this problem but it seems to be a little more virulent. One CPU of his 4 CPU rx4640 is constantly taken up by kcmond. If I try and communicate in any way with it (kcalarm -m off, for example) it just says:

ERROR: Communication with EMS failed

Yet the ems seem to be running fine in terms of reporting problems and the resmon client is running ok. On his other cluster member 4640 this problem doesn't exist.

I've tried looking through the resmon log files but can't see anything particularly out of place...

Reboot to cure? :-)

cheers,

Ian.

Re: kcmond hogging CPU time

The problem is known by HP and they expect a fix for the december release. It seems to happen only to a few people; if it was widespread, I think they would have made a fix in a shorter timeframe.

In the mean time the only solution I've found is to move /usr/lbin/kcmond to /usr/lbin/kcmond.bak so that it never starts again. It probably logs an error somewhere but it has worked for a few weeks now.

Re: kcmond hogging CPU time

So any updates on this. kcmond is doing the same thing to us on several systems. There was another thread that said a glanceplus patch solved the problem, but it didn't say which patch. (it also seemed a bit unlikely--but it is possilble)

Re: kcmond hogging CPU time

There is a jag opened on this, number JAGaf94449. Last news I got was that a patch was expected for the 11.23 december release. I just checked and there doesn't seem to be any yet.
