LAN/web console for the A-Class server

Can someone please tell me if the LAN/web console is still an optional parts for the A-Class server that I must order separately?

Thanks.

Re: LAN/web console for the A-Class server

I just got the official words from our HP sales rep. who saids that the web console has to be ordered separately for the new A-Class (400/500).

The A-Class description from HP's website is somewhat mis-leading on this because the web console is being listed under the "standard I/O feature" in the product specification. (see link below)

Philip,
The A400/A500 come with an internal LAN console that enables you to get a console using a telnet client. But the Secure Web Console is not included into the basic product.

This Page at:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/hw/class_a/a400/instalserv/NIL0002QA.html
Indicates ther is a built-in webconsole.. I have A-180C's with built -ins.. I thought the new ones had them built in also.. It has a serial console port(either, but not both work) as well..

OOPS
I misread that page myself, The Secure Web console is an additional PCI card option..
The Lan web (whatever that means) is built in..

Re: LAN/web console for the A-Class server

Hello,
I have just got two A400s with the optional (but built-in) Web-console, the standard
LAN-console, and a serial console port. All three work concurrently, but you
cannot use the LAN console port for data transmission - nor the Web-console-port.

Re: LAN/web console for the A-Class server

Hi Wodish (and all),

Do you know if your LAN console came in as a standard device for the A500 server? or you actually ordered it as an option? Please don't mind me asking the same question repeatedly because we bought an A500 server recently but HP denied the LAN/web console would come in as standard. I knew that web console is optional, but what about the LAN console?

Re: LAN/web console for the A-Class server

Hi Philip,
Recently i had installed 8*A500 m/c's
It is having onboard(in-built) LAN console and Serial console ports by def.
But Secure Web Console is an additional(optional) product.
Part.No is A5858A Secure Web console PCI card.

Hope this will help...
Thanks
Sailesh

Re: LAN/web console for the A-Class server

Philip,

the LAN console is part of the standart core IO features of the A400/A500. It has the same capabilities like the LAN console of the N- and L-Class.

You are able to make a telnet connection to this port. It's much faster than the Secure Web Console, but the transmission is not secured at all.
