Re: lanadmin command problem

Try:
lanadmin -X spd_duplex ppa#,

ie: lanadmin -X 100FD 1

Re: lanadmin command problem

First, use lanscan to get the PPA#, i.e.
lanscan
Hardware Station Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
10/16/8 0x080009DB2037 1 UP lan1 snap1 1 ETHER Yes 119
10/12/6 0x0060B006C443 0 UP lan0 snap0 2 ETHER Yes 119

There's two cards, the first is PPA# 0, the second is PPA# 1.

Then use lanadmin to set the appropriate PPA# to the speed desired.

Re: lanadmin command problem

One other thought - from man lanadmin:
For operations other than display, you must have superuser privileges.

You are doing this as root, aren't you?

Re: lanadmin command problem

Sorry, I got it backwards in my description of the lanscan output. The first card is PPA# 1 (identified by lan1), the second is PPA# 0 (lan0).

Re: lanadmin command problem

ok. see.
I do lanscan:
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
0/0/0/0 0x00306E1C6101 0 UP lan0 snap0 1 ETHER Yes 119
0/2/0/0 0x00306E1E5D7A 1 UP lan1 snap1 2 ETHER Yes 119
then:
root@smi:/> lanadmin -s 0
Speed = 10000000
I would like to change for ex 100FD
root@smi:/> lanadmin -S 100 0
Old Speed = 10000000
Unable to change speed: errno = 22
root@smi:/>
or
root@smi:/> lanadmin -S 1 0
Old Speed = 10000000
New Speed = 10000000
So it means that I can not change the speed?

Re: lanadmin command problem

What kind of hardware are we working with here? What's the server? What are the two network interface cards that we're seeing? It looks to me that you're trying to change the internal card (the one on the core I/O board) and I would expect that the additional card (lan1) is probably the 100MB capable card.

Re: lanadmin command problem

Hi
It is L server.
Only lan0 is used to communicate.

Re: lanadmin command problem

The question is... can we change speed on lan0?

===================================================================
lan 0 0/0/0/0 btlan3 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP PCI 10/100Base-TX Core
/dev/diag/lan0 /dev/ether0
lan 1 0/2/0/0 btlan5 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A5230A/B5509BA PCI 10/100Base-TX Addon
/dev/diag/lan1 /dev/ether1 /dev/lan1

Re: lanadmin command problem

I'm stumped - it certainly looks like you should be able to change speeds but I don't know why it won't work (other than the guess about not doing it as root).

Re: lanadmin command problem

Im afraid but I have shown you all data from the system...
now lanadmin show 10000000...
its 10 Mbites/s.
I think I can change it to 100 am I right?

Re: lanadmin command problem

Have you tried configuring this through SAM?

Networking and Communications -> Network Interface Cards -> Actions - Configure?

Cheers!

Re: lanadmin command problem

Hmmm, maybe a hardware problem? I'd log a call with HP...

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: lanadmin command problem

What is the other end of the Ethernet cable connected to? Does it support 100M? Has it been manually set to 10?

Re: lanadmin command problem

good question!...
there are few network elements...
and are set to 10... but if are autonegotiating???
how it is possible to change all network elenets to diffrent speed and don't lose netework alive.

Re: lanadmin command problem

And what about auto-negotiation? It should be off at both ends.

Re: lanadmin command problem

if autonegotiation is off it means that nodes can have diffrent speed. if one node is 10 then another node which have 100 will be connecting with 10Mb node?

Re: lanadmin command problem

Hi,

I strongly suggest you set both ends of the connection to the speed you desire. This means you turn off auto-negiotiation. Auto-neg often fails to set both ends to the same speed and duplex setting. It often results in slow transfer rates however I've also experienced a connection that will drop once I changed the speed / duplex setting on the fly. It was simply a problem with auto-neg.

Set the switch port then set the server to the same setting.
