LDAP user management

Hi,

I want to implement LDAP with Netscape Directory server in our environment.

The basic setup is done, and I am able to add, delete and modify users/groups etc. As well from commandline as from DS console.

Since our current user management is done via a script, used by the helpdesk users who don't have prompt access, I am looking for a similar solution.
I will not be able to let the helpdesk use the DS console.

Now my question for the ldap situation:

1. Does anyone use a script like this, used for ldap management, and if so can I have a look at it !
2. how is user adding/deleting/modifying organised in your organization ?

Thanks in advance for any tip/suggestion or script !

Kind regards,
Clemens

Re: LDAP user management

If you're a friend of Perl there is a nice
Perl module Net::LDAP - some examples are here:

http://www.freealter.org/doc_distrib/perl-5.00502/modules/perl-ldap-0.19/lib/Net/LDAP/Examples.html

Re: LDAP user management

Richard,

Thank you very much.
Since I am a basic script writer, I was looking for something similar.
I will be able to adapt them to my needs.

Zeev,

Since I am not that good in perl it will be difficult for me to use that option right now.

I will be studying perl later, so maybe for a later moment very usefull.
Thanks anyway !

Kind regards,
Clemens

Re: LDAP user management

What about the Netscape Directory Server gateway that comes with the product ?
You can configure it to your needs and will give your help desk a GUI for user Management without giving them full access to the directory.

Re: LDAP user management

Rainer,

Is this a windows GUI ?

I will need a windows GUI since the helpdesk will have no access to X-windows which is used for the directory console.

I did not find any reference to this till now !

Re: LDAP user management

hi

Try this

http://sbsdownload.netscape.com/download/index.cgi

after you download it .. only install the netscape console. And there you go. No need for X-Windows and it is much faster.

Re: LDAP user management

Richard,

I already installed the complete package from the application CD from hp-ux 11.i.

Should I install something else ?

Bye the way your script work like a charm.
I will add one script later for resetting locked out accounts.

Thanks so far.

Re: LDAP user management

No download the windows version .. when you do the install it will ask you what compoants you want to install. From there only pick the netscape console. And in the setup you can connect to your hpux directory server though the console on your windows desktop. It is really nice.. that is how I have it set up and I love it.

Re: LDAP user management

Richard,

Thanks for the info !

How about licences and fees to be paid for using this software.
Since the hp-ux version is available for free ?

Re: LDAP user management

Rainer,

I am using version 6.11 as Directory server, and as far as I can tell, the gateway program is not included in this version.

Re: LDAP user management

Hello Clemens,

Also, have a look at Netscape Directory Server 6.11 Release Notes

http://enterprise.netscape.com/docs/directory/611/ds611relnotes.html

Hope this helps.
