Limiting physical memory to use

I have 16GB on my 11.11 system. For testing purpose, I need to limit it to 8GB. I tried
"ISL>hpux -maxmem=8589934592 /stand/vmunix"
and the system still came up with 16GB. Thinking that maxmem might need to be expressed in 4K pages, I specified
"ISL>hpux -maxmem=2097152 /stand/vmunix"
and the system boot failed with error messages saying that it would halt with a loop. Any suggestion would be much appreciated!

run xstm or stm and figure the size of the dimms. you can also remove the memory dimms to bring it down to 8GB.. just as an option..

Re: Limiting physical memory to use

I've found the proper answer from another thread. The flag to use is -M. The flag -maxmem seems to be ignored. So the proper command is:

ISL> hpux -M2097152

Notice that it is expressed in 4K pages. Bear in mind that this is neither a documented nor a supported feature!!!
