lockdisk configuration for 2 node cluster

Is this just a volume group in SAN?

Do I need to create logical volume and mount it on a filesystem like other VGs?

Is there anything different I need to do?

I am designing the filesystems for the serviceguard ENV.

Please advice.

Thanks

Re: lockdisk configuration for 2 node cluster

It needs to be a shared disk/LUN in the cluster, and has to be in an LVM Volume Group (VxVM not supported). It can be a disk/LUN that is used for shared data storage, no need to have a separate VG/PV for this

Re: lockdisk configuration for 2 node cluster

Hi,

A lock disk may be used for clusters up to and including four nodes in size. The cluster lock disk is a special area on an LVM disk located in a volume group that is shareable by all nodes in the cluster. When a node obtains the cluster lock, this area is marked so that other nodes will recognize the lock as "taken."

The lock disk is not dedicated for use as the cluster lock; the disk can be employed as part of a normal volume group with user data on it.

Please refer the section in the manual Managing SG pointed by the following url for more info on cluster lock disk.

Re: lockdisk configuration for 2 node cluster

Whether or not the cluster_lock_vg has LVOL's and/or filesystems is entirely up to you. You can choose to carry data in the VG if you like. A common approach is to create a very small VG and let it serve only as the cluster_lock_vg. The main point is that the disk must be accessible to all nodes and be powered separately from all nodes.

Note: Each node specifies a FIRST_CLUSTER_LOCK_PV and this path can be different (and likely will be different) for each node as long as the path point to the same physical device.

Nowadays, rather than using lock disks, a Quorum Server is considered to be a better and more flexible approach and if I were designing a new cluster that would certainly be my choice. A little PC running Linux makes a great QS.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
