Re: Login problem

Hi

It seems that the file "/etc/utmp" is missing ! You can telnet/rlogin to that machine and touch that file and reboot your machine . It wil be okay.

Re: Login problem

Your file /etc/utmp is corrupt or missing.
telnet to the box; and ls -l /etc/utmp.
if it exists emty it by doing cat /dev/null > /etc/utmp.

if there is no /etc/utmp do touch /etc/utmp.

with this done you should reboot and the problem is gone.

Re: Login problem

Hi

I faced this once. This is nothing but corrupted or missing /etc/utmp. The solution is rlogin to the workstation and do this

#touch /etc/utmp

Its permission is 644 and owner is root:root.

Then reboot the system. Now ur problem is killed.

Best of luck
