logins > 8 characters

I understand that you can have a login longer than 8 characters on 11.0 as long as you have a patch. Is anyone aware of any problems or instances in which these logins will cause problems.

Thanks

Re: logins > 8 characters

despite the patch you are unable to use SAM or useradd to create a login > 8 characters. You must modify the /etc/passwd file directly after a legitamate login has been corrected.
Don't forget to create the I_ACCEPT_RESPONSIBILITY_FOR_BYPASSING_SECURITY_CHECKS file in /etc/default.
pwck, who, last will all function differently.

Re: logins > 8 characters

Hello,
I had this problem where a long login did have 1 problem that I did notice. When you telnet it would give you "unknown" instead of the hostname.
here is the link to my post.

Re: logins > 8 characters

Hi Bruce,

The patch was supposed to be PHCO_22265
but this is no longer available in the patch database.

However you can get by without the patch,
cd /etc/default
touch I_ACCEPT_RESPONSIBILITY_FOR_BYPASSING_SECURITY_CHECKS

and then go ahead and create the user.
I would avoid doing this unless ofcourse there is an absolute necessity to do this.
