Re: Looking for download accelerator tool
Compressing the files before sending them sometimes helps.
If they are very large, you might be better off recording them onto a removable medium (DDS tape or CD-ROM) and transfering the medium.
Check that you are using BINARY transfer mode for non-text files, otherwise FTP must (IIRC) send additional escape codes, which might slow it down noticeably (halve the performance?)
FTP uses TCP/IP, so setup and tear-down costs (SYN-ACK and DNS use) are negligible for large transfers. I therefore suspect there is no way of making FTP itself much faster.

Re: Looking for download accelerator tool
Hi,
What type of files do you plan to download ?
compression before download will really help regular files but will not affect bitmap files and media files which are already compressed.
There is no download accelerator FTP client tool running in HP-UX .
But you can use Download Accelerator Plus ( DAP evaluation) a windows ftp client utility to speed uo the tranfers through HTTP.
download URL
http://download.com.com/3000-2071-10127147.html?part=speedbit&subj=dlpage&tag=button
For that to work , run a web server instead of FTP server with directory listing enabled for that particular direcory containg all your files ( give read only permission for security reasons).
Then from the windows PC , thru browser access hat directory thru web browser . right cick that evry file you want download and select using download accelerator. start download.
you have scheduling options also in that.

U.SivaKumar
