loss of original file and directory permissions

Hi,

The sysadmin in our team was doing os upgrade from 11.0 to 11.11i. ( My role is not sys admin here ).

When i was trying to bring up the applications i realized that original permissions were lost on the files and directories.

I don't know what methods was being used to backup and restore. We use dataprotector backup software in our environment.

Can anyone suggest under what circumstances original permissions vanishes while restoring ? I guess sys admin might not have used dataprotector for restoring the apps.

Appreciate any clue.
