Lost HPUX 10.2 install disk

I need to create a duplicate of an old server and can't locate my 10.2 install disk. How can I get a new disk, or transfer from the old server to the new?

Re: Lost HPUX 10.2 install disk

Do you have Ignite/UX installed and a local tape drive attached? If so, you could create a make_recovery or make_tape_recovery tape and use it to install on the newer server.

There isn't much chance to get a new disk set from HP as 10.20 has been out of support for a while now.

You could always try e-bay. I have seen 10.20 install media for sale there.

What type of server is your "new" machine?

Ignite is not installed (and I would have to build a test box to test the install before I could install it on the production box - rules). I haven't thought of e-bay, but I may be able to borrow a disk from someone else.

Re: Lost HPUX 10.2 install disk

Hi,

Trying a new disk or installing Ignite on production is the one & same thing. Still choice is yours. But Ignite is a better option in my opinion as does not require hardware modifications. Still if you opt for disk method, after removing mirroed disk make some changes like IP's & all before you put your test box into same network.

The old server is a - don't laugh - F10. I'm moving to a D350. It's just a gateway-type server and run's custom software that hasn't been tested on HPUX 11.x.

Hi,

I doubt then the mirror disk or even make_tape_recovery will work as you are trying to use it on different hardware version. Golden image through ignite will be the best option as it can manage a lot of hardware issues when using on different hardwares.

I think you're best best would be to get 10.20 install off of ebay or some such.

Install it to a clean disk and bring over your non-root disks at that point.

Re: Lost HPUX 10.2 install disk

Hi,

Yes, the easiest way of achiving this would be to load OS freshly & then import original or mirroed disks containing data VGs.The mirror thing will be the best option as it keeps production also running.
