lpr -S hostname -S filename doesn't work in hpux 11

Hello,
I understand that lpr is now gone due to it's BSD roots.

I want to issue print commands and specify the hostname on the fly...without doing "remote printer setups" for every printer I might want to print to.

(btw, removing lpr -S seems like a huge loss of functionality, imho)

Is there another way to print to IP/Printer directly? can I get lpr recompiled for hpux?

Many thanks for any thoughts you can provide.

Hi Jerry,

/usr/bin/lpr is still there & so is the preferred /usr/bin/rlp for that matter. But you are correct i.e. they *don't* accept the -S option anymore.

You might try rlpr from the porting center:

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/rlpr-2.02/

appears it has the functionality you're looking for.

HTH,
Jeff
