Re: LVM Patches

You dont need any specific patches to do this. As long as you keep up-to-date with the quarterly patch bundles (currently June2000) all should be fine. We use it at my current site without problems.

Re: LVM Patches

Go under Maintenance/Support->Individual Patches->select series 800, 10.20 and check by key word ( ex. mirror, or LVM or array). You'll get lots of patches, breifly read the description and decide what you need. Response center could be another solution.

Re: LVM Patches

Stefan, As you use this at your current site are running hpux 10.20 or 11.00? becuase we shortly to upgrade to hpux 11.00. Also the guys from EMC don't recommend mirroring between different types of hardware.

Re: LVM Patches

We use 10.20 and 11. We only use Jamaicas to EMC for mirroring if we have to, there could possibly be issues with bad block relocation and different performance between the devices so I guess thats why EMC, and probably HP, dont recommend it. But weve had no problems.

Re: LVM Patches

I would venture a guess that HP and EMC are not recommending their devices work together because of the conflicts between the two companies.

Re: LVM Patches

Another problem I have now discovered that when trying sync the disks I get a
error message STALE EXTENTS.

Re: LVM Patches

Hi,

sorry for getting back so late....

If youre getting stale extents when continuously trying to mirror onto an EMC disk then this is caused by errors on the source disk, nothing to do with the EMC disk.
Normally you will have to replace the source disk and restore it to fix the problem. Ive had the same problem before. You could try freeing up the source disk and using mediainit on it then trying to re-use it but I suspect it will need replacement.

To confirm this is true, if you have another free disk to attempt to mirror to, try it, and if you have the same problem (same extent is stale) then this confirms a bad bock on the original.

Re: LVM Patches

Stefan, I agree with you that it won't work.
