machine type

Hi,

On my machine uname -a gives B.11.00 E 9000/888

Is it HP 9000 machine? Please confirm

Yes it is.
Also run the model command to get the common model name
#model
9000/800/N4000-44
In this case it's an N-class with 440 MHz CPUs.

Also use "model" and "print_manifest" for more "info"

9000/888 doesn't sound like a valid model, are you sure you haven't got an HP clone?

What's an HP clone??? I've never heard of such a thing. I remember the clones of Sparc machines - but I just can't ever remember an HP clone. Wowwww.

So what is a 9000/888 then? Sounds like a machine that either isn't reporting itself correctly, or the O/S can't determine specifically what it is so uses 888 as a sort of default?

The configuration files have a 887 and an 889, but no 888.
