Re: Make Ignite to tape on another server

Practically not feasible,

if you could de-attached the tape-drive from server2 than attach to server you perform the Ignite

or

you need look for Ignite_Server setup / Installation

Re: Make Ignite to tape on another server

Hi,

Yes you can, you can take Ignite backup from one server and you can restore into another, while restoring choose advance option.

Re: Make Ignite to tape on another server

It is not recommended, but, as long as there is no I/O going on at the time, I've never had any problem doing so.

Re: Make Ignite to tape on another server

It's pretty easy to tell if there is activity on the tape drive or not: if the light is blinking, it's probably not a good time to try this. If the light is not blinking, it is very, very unlikely that you will have any problems.

No, there is no special SCSI cable that would prevent problems.

Hi Fernando Boza,

there are any cable SCSI for minimize it posible problem?

NO

if you could give some more (info) about the Server --> which has tape drive attached
would be much better to suggest to your Question

Example:-
model

ioscan -fnC tape --> out put

Server --> which d'not have tape drive

model

Sure boss give rlogin accesss to other host where tape is connected, through rhosts foe user equivelacy.then give the tape path as

destinarionhost:/dev/rmt/cxtxdx

Re: Make Ignite to tape on another server

Hi >> pa8700 ,

his requirement to perform a "ignite backup"

not file copied , have you tried "Ignite" / make_tape_recovery using rlogin method,.?

Thanks,

That only works for 'fbackup', NOT for Ignite.

Re: Make Ignite to tape on another server

Unless your tape drive can be removed and connected to server1, the task is meaningless. You can't send the data from Ignite from server1 direct to server2's tape drive, but you can use the network feature in Ignite to send the image to server2. Then you can restore server1 from server2 over the network. You'll need extra disk space on server2, at least as much as you have used in vg00 on server1 (always better to have multiple copies though).
