make_recovery from a remote tape.

Dear all,

I ave 2 HP-UX Systems 11.0

HP1 called "bridge" (tape installed)
HP2 called "Test" (No tape)
On bridge system i have set .rhosts file.

I have correctly stored some file with fbackup commands: from "Test" promppt as root user:

fbackup -f bridge:/dev/rmt/0m -v -i filename
This command works fine.

But when i try to execute an make_recovery command on a remote tape, I receive an error:

make_recovery -ACv -d bridge:/dev/rmt/0m

bridge:/dev/rmt/0m: No such file or directory
make_recovery(280): Archive destination bridge:/dev/rmt/0m not found
make_recovery(210): Encountered a fatal error.
make_recovery(212): Please fix errors and re-try.

How it is possible?
With fbackup, path name bridge:/dev/rmt/0m works fine,
but with make_recovery I receive "No such file or directory"

Thanks in advance
Alessandro

Re: make_recovery from a remote tape.

Ciao Alessandro,

make_recovery doesn't work in this way and it doesn't accept remote archive/tapes.
But there is another Ignite's utility: make_net_recovery for remote archives. (see man make_net_recovery).
Anyway it is a dainty argument! I think that

KNC090199002 - Ignite/UX: Network Archiving and Recovery

could help you.

Best regards,

Re: make_recovery from a remote tape.

I think it's worth adding that once you've done your make_net_recovery, you can make a bootable tape from it.

Obviously, this will only be of use to you if you have a spare tape drive you can carry round with you, but if you have limited disc space and several workstations to back up, it's worth knowing about.
