make recovery question reagrding clearcase

Hey everyone. I am trying to run my make_recovery -Ai command but it keeps on bombing out on me. It seems the problem is because I have got the clearcase filesystems mounted and make recovery doesn't like that. One of the optiosn I have is to stop clearcase, do my make recovery and then re-start clearcase again which I am not too happy about doing at this point. Is there somnething I can specify as a option in make recovery to ignore all the nfs mounted filesystems and to only look at my vg00. Any help will be greatly appreciated and points will definitely be given.

Re: make recovery question reagrding clearcase

Hi:

First, use the replacement for 'make_recovery' which is 'make_tape_recovery'. Using the later command, you can include and exclude directories and/or volume groups as you see fit. Have a look at the man pages that come with Ignite when you download and install a new copy (which does *not* require a reboot!).

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html

Volume group vg00 can be archived with 'make_tape_recovery' with the following simple command:

# make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Too, you server can be up and running normally when you create an Ignite recovery tape. You may find some warnings issued for files that cannot be archived. If you look carefully at these warnings you will see that they are temporary files that were present at the beginning of the Ignite session when the filesystems were first snapshoted, but have been removed before they were actually archived.

Re: make recovery question reagrding clearcase

Some points:

1) The best option will be to use the make_tape_recovery command. This new version has more flexible options than the old make_recovery command.

2) Another little complex option with make_recovery is editing the file /var/opt/ignite/recovery/arch.include file. This file has the entries for all files that needs to be copied while running a make_recovery session. You can remove entries for the directory you don't need. You can create this file by doing a -p (preview) option with the command. If this file is already there, then you can edit that. Check the man pages for more details.
