make_recovery

What are the implications of using make_recovery -A on a 24/7 system? I would like to run this on a system monthly but I wanted to know how this will effect the system as it is running.

Thanks,

- Justin

Re: make_recovery

There could be some performance hit, the amount of depends on the system itself. You could run the make_recovery in a cron job and have it fire off at some during the PM or early AM.

Re: make_recovery

Hi,

It should not affect you much if you are not using root volume group heavily or heavy disk i/o when make_recovery is running. But as advised it is safe to run at night when user activities are negligible.

Re: make_recovery

Hi,

As pointed out, there may be some slight performance degradation during the operation but otherwise there is no effect.

I'm not sure I would run make_recovery from cron since I would be likely to forget it and possibly have the wrong tape in the drive. Instead, I would set up an at job before going home for the evening and threaten bodily harm to anyone touching the tape drive :).

Re: make_recovery

Justin,
I agree with the gurus. There will be a little impact on the system performance. So you can schedule the job at non-peak hours. We have scheduled them to be on every sunday early morning in a cron job.
To have the latest ignite-backup definitely increases the comfort level of an SA. ;-)0.
