make_tape_recovery error

Dear All,
When I start make_tape_recovery -A
on rx2600 with dds4 I get the following error:

* Creating The Tape Archive
Adding /opt/ignite/Version file to LIF.
Malloc failed, out of memory for strings
instl_adm: Cannot read symbols from /var/tmp/uxinstlf.recovery.
instl_adm: Cannot open file: "/var/tmp/uxinstlf.recovery": Function is not available
ERROR: Failed to get the configure information into RAMFS.
ERROR: Failed to generate LIF on tape .

Any suggestions?
Regards

Re: make_tape_recovery error

Hi ,

Try changing the tape.

Is this the first time are u trying make_tape_recovery and hetting error on this server? If yes this could be a problem with ignite version also. Try installing the latest verion of ignite-ux.

See a lot of similar problems here.

Re: make_tape_recovery error

Goran,

"Malloc failed, out of memory for strings"

I think this is where the problem starts...

check if some strange process are running.

check memory usage while make_tape_recovery is running (vmstat or top).

if you can reboot see if that changes anything

try
make_tape_recovery -v -x inc_entire=vg00

next try could be to download the latest Version of Ignite C.6.x.x , swremove old version, swinstall new one

Bernhard

P.S. for recovery of rx servers you need to boot from install DVD, then you can recover from tape, guess you know that.

Re: make_tape_recovery error

Sounds like the make_tape_recovery binary is corrupted. Did you download Ignite using FTP, if so are you sure that you used binary transfer, not ascii? It might be worth downloading/reinstalling Ignite again.
