SolutionOne thing I see right off the bat is that make_tape_recovery defaults to /dev/rmt/0mn if you don't specify a tape device. Otherwise, -a is the option to use. This changed from make_recovery which used the -d. What version of Ignite are you using?

Re: make_tape_recovery error
Have a look at the warning for patch PHSS_26498 (circular links created in directory)
... assuming your box is running hpux 11.11. This may have caused the problem you're seeing. Follow the steps in the text of the patch for a resolution.
Hope this helps,

Re: make_tape_recovery error
The Ignite version is "B.3.6.82" and the OS is 11.11. I don't have the patch that Denver mentions installed. ?????

Re: make_tape_recovery error
You really have two choices here:
1. Install the patch that Denver recommended and run your command again.
OR
2. Upgrade your Ignite software to the latest version B.4.1 . No patch or reboot is required. It can be downloaded from:
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html
Hope this helps!

Re: make_tape_recovery error
I'll throw that patch on and go from there. I'll post my results.
Thanks to all,
Randy

Re: make_tape_recovery error
I applied the patch PHSS_27875 (supercedes *26498). I also removed the older version of Ignite and installed B.4.1.61 and then when I tried the "make_tape_recovery" command again, it complained about needing a new version of the PAX patch. So I installed PHCO_26422 (as requested by it). Again I ran the command, this time the error is:
ERROR: list_expander returned an error.
ERROR: Failed to get the archive size and the list of files which will be in
archive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Randy
